Full Bio

Michael Kollwitz is a speaker, musician, and author who uses music and storytelling to explore creativity, problem-solving, and reinvention. With two decades in corporate sales and more than twenty years as an award-winning recording artist, Michael brings a rare, real-world perspective on how creative thinking actually works—especially when the plan doesn’t go as expected.

His journey began by saying “yes” to an unusual opportunity: learning a revolutionary instrument directly from its inventor. Choosing a path few understood, Michael built a career around the Chapman Stick through persistence, adaptability, and creative risk-taking. Along the way, he self-booked hundreds of performances for corporate events, private gatherings, and community venues, released more than 30 independent albums, and earned Billboard chart placements—all without the support of a label, agent, or manager.

Today, Michael presents engaging programs for country clubs, arts organizations, and lifelong learning audiences throughout Arizona including Scottsdale, Sedona, Flagstaff, Tucson, and Phoenix.

He was recently featured as a speaker at Arizona MusicFest and the Arizona Music Educators Association, where his unique blend of music and message resonated with diverse audiences.

His first book, Stick With It – Adventures of a Chapman Stick Player, chronicles his unconventional career path and lifelong mentorship with inventor Emmett Chapman. His latest book, What Music Teaches You About Everything, expands on those lessons, showing how music reflects the way we solve problems, make decisions, and navigate change in everyday life.

On stage, Michael blends live performance, humor, and audience interaction to create memorable experiences that are both entertaining and thought-provoking. His programs invite audiences to see creativity not as a talent reserved for artists, but as a practical skill—one that enriches everyday life, keeps the mind engaged, and opens the door to new possibilities at any stage.

Program Style

Michael’s presentations are relaxed, interactive, and designed to connect with audiences of all backgrounds. Each program combines:

  • Live Chapman Stick performance
  • Storytelling from a lifetime in music and business
  • Light audience interaction (never uncomfortable)
  • Moments of humor, reflection, and insight

The result is a program that feels less like a lecture—and more like an experience.
