In the world of sales (or any other worthwhile endeavor), there’s a common saying that 80% of success is showing up. It may seem simplistic, but it makes sense when you think about it. If you’re not there when you say you will be, how can you expect to make a sale or build a relationship with a potential client? In other words, consistency and reliability are crucial to success in sales and almost anything else that matters.

Tom Hopkins, my sales trainer, was known for his famous motto, “Suit up and show up.” He believed that simply being present and ready to do the work was the first step towards achieving success. This is true in sales and any field that requires hard work and dedication. I also followed this principle during my career as a musician, leading to many opportunities I wouldn’t have otherwise found. If you want to make your dreams a reality, you need to be willing to put in the time and effort required.

Finally, being in the right place at the right time can also make a big difference in your success. For example, you should move to New York City if you want to be on Broadway. If you want to work in tech, you should be in Silicon Valley. Of course, you can achieve success from anywhere in the world, but being in the right place can undoubtedly give you an advantage. And no matter where you are, remember that showing up consistently and reliably is still the key to success.
